HONG KONG's Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has announced it will increased the freight rates on south east Asia-Australia services from August 1.

Freight rates for both dry and refrigerated cargo will be raised US$200 per TEU and $400 per FEU for shipments from south east Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indian subcontinent, Myanmar and the Middle East) to Australia.

"The ocean freight rates continue to be below the required level to cover basic operating costs or transportation costs in our south east Asia-Australia services. Considering that current levels are unsustainable for the long term, we are announcing a rate restoration programme for this trade lane," OOCL said in a statement.
