Xiamen's Taiwan fruit imports up 67.9pc to 13,100 tonnes in 2013

THE Xiamen port opposite Taiwan posted a 67.95 per cent year-on-year increase in overall Taiwanese fruit imports to 13,100 tonnes in 2013, with the import value soaring 102.23 per cent to US$15.73 million, reports Xinhua.

The Xiamen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau reported that Xiamen's Dadeng town imported $72.15 million of goods in 2013 from Taiwan, an 11.71 per cent increase year on year, while its import value of Taiwan aquatic products in the year reached $21.52 million, 10 times more than that in 2012.

The Xiamen Cross-Strait Trading Centre is now under construction, which when completed is estimated to attract a total of 64 Taiwanese associations and enterprises with the investment of CNY300 million ($49.62 million). Meanwhile, five new projects in Xiamen will commence with Taiwan, with eight times as much money invested over last year's expenditure.
